What makes GOVS a real school, not a workaround
When people hear "online school," they picture a lot of different things - homeschool, a website with some videos, a place you go to grab a quick certificate. GOVS is none of those. Here's exactly what we are, and why it matters for your diploma.

GOVS is a tuition-free public school under Ohio law
GOVS is an officially recognized public community school in the state of Ohio. We're funded the same way any district is, which is why families never pay tuition. We answer to the state, we follow Ohio's academic standards, and we're held to the same accountability as a brick-and-mortar school.
That recognition is the foundation for everything else on this page. It's what makes your diploma real.
Certified teachers do the actual teaching
At GOVS, the teaching is on us, not on you or your family. Your courses are taught by teachers certified in their subjects, and they're reachable for help as you work.
You also get an assigned academic coach, plus counselors and support staff - a full team behind you, the same way a traditional school is staffed, just delivered online and at the Student Center.

You graduate with a Ohio high school diploma
GOVS students earn a real Ohio high school diploma - issued by GOVS, meeting the same state graduation requirements as any district. It is not a GED. It is not a certificate of completion.
Your credits are Carnegie Unit credits, the standard currency of high school coursework, and they transfer to other schools if you ever move or return to your home district.
You walk in a cap-and-gown ceremony
A diploma you can hold and a stage you can walk across. GOVS holds a full graduation ceremony every June, caps and gowns included, with families in the seats. For students who weren't sure they'd ever get this moment, that's the whole point.

Here's how GOVS is different from homeschool and online cohorts
It's worth being direct about the two things people most often confuse us with.
We're not homeschool
Homeschool puts the teaching on parents. GOVS provides the teachers, the courses, and the diploma. You're a full-time enrolled public school student.
We're not a loose cohort
GOVS has real departments, real staff, and real in-person support - not just a sign-in and a stack of assignments.
