Academic coaches

Every GOVS student gets an academic coach - a real person whose job is helping you build the habits, plan, and momentum to graduate. Here's what your coach does and how they support you.

Your point person for staying on track

Your academic coach helps you develop the skills, behaviors, and habits that lead to success at GOVS. Think of them as your go-to person for the how of school - not just the what.

A coach works with you to:

  • Set academic goals and a plan to reach them
  • Build time-management and organization skills
  • Stay on top of attendance, coursework, and testing
  • Connect to other GOVS resources when you need them

Someone checking in on your progress

You won't fall through the cracks. Your coach checks in with you regularly on how things are going - your hours, your coursework, your testing - and keeps you in the loop on events and opportunities at GOVS.

It's a supportive relationship built around one goal: helping you understand what's expected and meet it.

Every student is assigned a coach

You don't have to request a coach or qualify for one - every GOVS student is assigned an academic coach from the start. They're a consistent point of contact throughout your time here.

This is my fourth year as an Academic Coach. I came to GOVS after working in Wraparound for Montgomery County.

Prior to that, I graduated Cum Laude from Cal State Dominguez Hills with a BA in Sociology.

As an Academic Coach, I feel it is crucial to break down barriers and identify strengths when trying to formulate a plan for every student to be successful at GOVS, and beyond.

Fun fact: I am originally from Redondo Beach, CA, and have two pups named DIXON (california husky) and MITZI (ohio mutt rescue).

Hi, I’m Vanessa Srikantham, and I’m excited to join the team as an academic coach! I look forward to helping students stay motivated and on track to meet their goals.

Before transitioning into education, I worked as a newspaper copy editor and page designer, including as part of a team that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. I later moved into travel marketing before taking time off to be a stay-at-home mom. In recent years, I’ve focused on substitute teaching — I'm certified in most districts across Butler and Warren counties — and supporting our local schools as a dedicated volunteer and PTO board member.

My husband, who is from India, and I have been married for 12 years. We live in Morrow with our 9-year-old daughter, who’s heading into fourth grade. I enjoy reading, playing board games, and traveling, and I’m a passionate advocate for public education.
