Enroll if you're an Ohio resident in grades 9-12
Eligibility is simple. To enroll at GOVS, you need to be:
- An Ohio resident - you live anywhere in the state of Ohio
- In grades 9-12 - including adults working toward their diploma until they turn 22
That's it. You don't need permission from your home district, and you don't need to live in a particular region - GOVS is a statewide public school open to students from every corner of Ohio.
You don't need your district's permission to enroll
This trips a lot of families up, so let's be clear: you don't need approval from your current school or district to come to GOVS. You simply complete an online registration, and our staff takes it from there.
One important note - don't withdraw from your current school yet. Stay enrolled where you are until our office reaches out with your next steps and start date.
A quick check: is GOVS a fit for you?
Eligibility is one thing - fit is another. GOVS tends to be a strong match if you can say yes to a few of these:
- You live in Ohio and are in grades 9-12 (or are an adult under 22 still working toward a diploma)
- Traditional school isn't working - whether that's health, anxiety, bullying, work, family, or just a better way to learn
- You want a real diploma, not a GED
- You can work independently and manage your own schedule, with support when you need it
- You're behind on credits, or want the flexibility to work at your own pace
