How to earn offline time
Not all of your hours have to happen on the screen. Approved offline activities count toward your weekly attendance, too. Here's what offline time is and how to log it.
Know the difference between online and offline hours
Your weekly hours come from two places:
- Online hours - time spent actively logged into VLA and working on coursework, also called computer seat time
- Offline hours - time spent on approved activities away from VLA that still count toward attendance
Both count toward your weekly total - offline time just gives you more ways to get there.
What counts as offline time
Offline hours come from approved activities completed while you're not logged into VLA. Common examples include:
- Working your job (through the Work Study Program)
- Testing
- Independent reading
- Enrichment activities (e.g., independent reading, watching an educational film or documentary, making an art project)
Some VLA units also let you add offline time in the final question. When in doubt, check with your coach about what qualifies.
How to log your offline hours
Offline hours are added to your account once a teacher approves them, so they may show up later in the week rather than right away.
