Support for every kind of learner
As a public school, GOVS offers the same range of services you'd find in any traditional public school. The Student Services Department oversees:
- Special education programming
- Section 504 support
- Mental health services
- English Learner (EL) services
- Resource coordination connecting students and families to school and community supports
Whatever a student needs to learn and succeed, this is the team that helps make it happen.
Special education and your rights
GOVS is committed to providing a free, appropriate public education to students with disabilities, in line with state and federal law. We're also required to identify and evaluate students who may have a disability under IDEA.
If you believe your child may have a disability, reach out to the Student Services Director - and know that families have clear rights throughout the special education process, available in both English and Spanish.

Mental health support, on a continuum
Mental health support at GOVS isn't one-size-fits-all - it's provided along a continuum based on what a student needs. That can range from check-ins with a mental health professional and social-emotional learning activities, to peer support groups and clinical therapy services, offered both in person and via telehealth.
Connecting you to the resources you need
Our resource coordinator helps break down the barriers that get in the way of school and life. That means connecting students and families to support like food and hygiene resources, housing programs, financial assistance, childcare, crisis intervention, career programs, and more.
Support for English Learners
GOVS supports students who are English Learners through our EL program, helping students and families thrive academically while building language skills.
Since 2017 I had the great opportunity to work with GOVS students who speak other languages but also are learning English. I strongly believe in the effectiveness of the ESL Program because it was the support that made a great impact and benefit my family when we arrived in US. Occupying this position is not my job, but definitely my passion.
Building future careers
"Our workforce development coordinator helps students with employment and job skills. This means assisting students with Work Permits, providing workshops on job skills and career development, and taking students on field trips to employment sites."
