If you're working a job, that effort can count toward school. GOVS lets eligible students turn employment into elective credit and attendance hours - and issues work permits for students who need them. Here's how both work.
Turn your job into elective credit
Through the GOVS Work Study Program, eligible students earn elective credit and weekly attendance hours for verified employment. For students balancing a job with school, it means the hours you're already working help move you toward graduation.
You can earn up to three elective credits and a set number of weekly attendance hours through the program.
Follow the steps to earn work study credit
The process is straightforward:
Apply.
Complete the work study application.
Get approved.
The Work Study Coordinator reviews it and, if approved, adds your first work study class.
Verify your hours.
Complete the class and submit proof of employment, like paycheck stubs.
Earn credit and keep going.
Once verified, you earn credit and can be assigned the next class to continue.
Get your work permit through GOVS
If you're a minor who needs a work permit, GOVS can issue one. Permits are available to students who are keeping up with their coursework and haven't fallen too far behind on the attendance expectation.
It's one more way GOVS supports students who are working while they finish school.
