GOVS is a tuition-free public school recognized by the state of Ohio. Not a private program. Not a workaround. A real school.
That means your coursework meets Ohio's standards, your teachers are certified, and the diploma you earn is a real Ohio high school diploma - the same one students earn at any district in the state.

GOVS isn't homeschool - we do the teaching
This is the question we hear most: "Wait, is this homeschool?"
No. With homeschool, the teaching falls on you and your family. At GOVS, you're a full-time public school student with real teachers, real courses, real counselors, and a real diploma at the end. We do the educating. You do the learning.
It's not a loose online cohort either. GOVS has departments, staff, and support that look a lot like a traditional school - just delivered on a platform you can reach from anywhere.

Coursework is open 24/7, so school fits your life
GOVS is fully asynchronous. There are no live, required class times. Your coursework is on the VLA platform and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you decide when learning happens.
That flexibility is what lets our students keep going when life is full:
- Work a job - even full time - and still finish high school
- Manage a health condition or treatment without falling behind
- Care for family, including your own kids, on your own schedule
- Train, travel, or compete and take school with you
You get coaches, tutors, and counselors the whole way
Working at your own pace doesn't mean working alone. Every GOVS student is surrounded by people whose whole job is helping them cross the finish line.

The part families don't expect from an online school: there's somewhere to show up, and something to walk toward.
At the Franklin Student Center, students do coursework, get tutoring, meet their coaches, and join in events and programs like eSports and the Steel Band Ensemble. It's the in-person heart of the school.
And it all builds to one thing - a real graduation. Cap and gown, your name called, your family watching. GOVS holds a full ceremony every June.
GOVS is built for students in grades 9-12 who need a different way
There's no single type of GOVS student. We serve Ohio students in grades 9-12 - including adults working toward their diploma until they turn 22 - who, for all kinds of reasons, need a different way to finish school.
- Behind on credits and want a real shot at graduating
