What's expected of you as a GOVS student

Flexibility is the gift GOVS gives you. Follow-through is what you bring in return. Here's an honest look at what's expected, so you know exactly what you're stepping into.

Log in every day and keep a routine

The single biggest predictor of success at GOVS is simple: show up daily. Log in every school day, even when you don't have much time, and treat your school hours like an appointment you keep.

The students who build a steady routine - same time, same place, most days - are the ones who stay on track and finish.

Complete about 5 hours and a lesson a day

GOVS has clear minimums to keep you moving toward graduation:

25 hours of schoolwork a week

25 hours of schoolwork a week

your assigned point person for goals, time management, and staying on track

At least one lesson per day

At least one lesson per day

Take ownership of your own schedule

Because there are no live classes, no one is pacing the day for you. That independence is exactly why GOVS works for so many students - and it's also what it asks of you.

Owning your time means planning your week, starting work without being told to, and keeping momentum even when no one's watching. It's a skill, and it's one that serves you long after graduation.

Speak up early when you're struggling

Independence doesn't mean toughing it out alone. The expectation isn't that you never struggle - it's that you reach out when you do.

If you're falling behind on hours, stuck on a lesson, or just overwhelmed, tell someone. Your coach, mentor, teachers, and tutors are here for exactly that. Asking early is a sign you're doing this right, not wrong.

Stay on top of attendance and hours

Like any public school, GOVS follows Ohio's attendance and truancy rules. If hours start slipping, you'll hear from us - first as a heads-up, then with a plan to help you get back on track.

None of that is meant to be scary. It exists for one reason: to keep you moving toward the diploma you came here for.

Meet the expectations, earn the freedom

Here's the trade. Meet these expectations and the flexibility becomes yours to use - school that fits your job, your health, your family, your life. Students who take the expectations seriously get the best of both worlds: real freedom and a real diploma.
