We are changing the process for requesting a tutor at the Greater Ohio Virtual School. In the past, students or parents who wanted to request a tutor would call the main office to request tutoring help in a specific area. In an effort to expedite the process and gather data to help improve our tutoring system, we have created a “Tutor Request” link on our home page (www.mygovs.com) that will take each student and or parent to our new Tutoring Request Form. There will be required information to complete on the form that will be needed to assign the appropriate tutor along with a “Tutoring Agreement”. This agreement will contain student guidelines and expectations for students. Upon acceptance of the Agreement students and parents will submit the form and wait for contact from an assigned tutor. Please remember that after three or more cancellations and or No Shows, a student may be denied future tutoring requests.
Non-Classroom Learning Opportunities Form
At the beginning of the school year we sent home a letter explaining the new requirement by the state that each Electronic School Student would need to log five hours of instructional time per day. To help with this we created a “Time Spent Today” counter at the top of each student home page that calculates how much time each student spends logged in to the Virtual Learning Curriculum. In an effort to further help our students reach the required 5 hours of instructional time each day we are now implementing the Non-Classroom Learning Opportunities Form. This form is to be used to track any hours spent outside of the Virtual Learning Academy Curriculum working on lessons/units. These hours could include Internet research for a specific lesson, assigned reading or videos, or tutoring.
